Patruljetorpedobåden PT-109Kom i drift i 1942 i Stillehavet. Den 2. august 1943 ramponerede den japanske destroyer Amagiri PT-109, hvilket fik patruljebåden til at synke. I en krisesituation lykkedes det for enhedens chef og kommende amerikanske præsident John F. Kennedy at redde hele besætningen. Handlingerne gjorde ham til en krigshelt!Patruljebåden var bemandet af en besætning på 12-17 personer. Den sidste mission blev overværet af 13 besætningsmedlemmer ledet af kaptajn Kennedy. PT-109 blev drevet af tre 1500 hk (1100 kW) Packard 12-cylindrede benzinmotorer. Bådens hastighed var omkring 41 knob (76 km/t). PT-109 havde et enkelt 20 mm Oerlikon antiluftskyts kanonbeslag bagtil. Ved afslutningen af deres sidste mission installerede besætningen en 37 mm panserværnskanon i stævnen. Det vigtigste offensive våben for båden var hendes torpedoer. PT-109 var udstyret med fire 21-tommer (53 cm) torpedorør, der indeholdt Mark 8-torpedoer. Den var også udstyret med to dybdeladninger og dobbeltkoblede tunge maskingeværer.

The TORPEDO BOAT pt-109 patrol entered service in 1942 in the Pacific. On August 2, 1943, the Japanese destroyer Amagiri rammed the PT-109, causing the patrol boat to sink. In a crisis situation, the commander of the unit and the future president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, managed to save the entire crew. The actions taken made him a war hero!The patrol boat was manned by a crew of 12-17 people. The last mission was attended by 13 crew members headed by Captain Kennedy. The PT-109 was powered by three 1500hp (1100kW) Packard 12-cylinder gasoline engines. The speed of the boat was approximately 41 knots (76 km / h). The PT-109 had a single 20 mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun mount at the rear. On the eve of their last mission, the crew installed a 37mm anti-tank gun in the bow. The main offensive weapon of the boat was her torpedoes. PT-109 was equipped with four 21-inch (53 cm) torpedo tubes containing Mark 8 torpedoes.
